Photoshop 3D text effect tutorial

In this tutorial I will show you how to make a shiny text effect in Photoshop. It can be done in any CS version of Photoshop.

Let's get started:

1. First, make a new document with 851x315 px. dimensions. This is the standard size for Facebook cover pictures. 72 dpi resolution will be enough.

2. Fill the background with black color.

3. Now write the text using a font of your choice. Double click on the text layer for layer styles and use bevel and emboss with the following settings:

4. Now, Ctrl+click on the text layer thumbnail to get a selection. Go to Select--Modify--Contract--5 and press Ctrl+J to get a new layer with the contents of the selection. Fill the selection with white color.

5. Next , go to Filter--Noise--Add Noise

6. Then, Filter--Noise--Dust and Scratches

7. Now, add some layer styles as follows:

8. If it looks too dark, go to Image--Adjustments--Brightness and contrast. Drag the sliders to adjust.

You will get something like this.

9. Now add tiny little stars to get a twinkling effect and add some glow effect to the stars.

10. This is the image you will get.

11. I added a gold texture to the text, an ornament at the top and a golden border to complete the look.
This is my final image.
